Milton Mallawarachchi
Born on 7th April 1945, Milton began his musical career as a member of the group ‘Sakyans’ followed by ‘La Ceylonians’.
His talents were discovered by the popular recording engineer Mervyn Rodrigo during a recording with the ‘La Ceylonians’. Thus he was introduced to Patrick Corera of Philips label, paving way to his maiden hit “Oruwaka Pawena” released in 1969.
Since then he has been a solo vocalist and his songs such as “Thaniwi Sitinnai”, “Me Mai Gaha Yata”, “Eda Ra”, “Ma Nisa Oba”, “Awasara Natha Mata” are popular among the young and old, even today.
Debuted as a playback singer in 1971, Milton was honoured with the Sarasaviya award for the best playback singer in 1984 for the song “Kandan Yannam”.
Sooriya has recorded one EP by Milton in 1977: CHB 059 including the songs “Arayum Patha”, “Pemwathek” “Sandalu Thalawe” and “Sukomaliye”. He has appeared in many of the popular Sooriya live shows during the mid 70’s.
Milton passed away at the age of 53 on 10th March 1998 but remains in our hearts through his evergreen songs.
