Sisira was born in Chilaw on 29th March 1935. He entered the music scene through radio and was later selected to sing background vocals for the film ‘Podi Putha’.

However, he rose to popularity with the song “Olu Nelum Neriya Rangala” recorded for the film ‘Rekhava’ in 1956. Not only did he rose to fame with the recording, he also met his life partner: Indrani Wijebandara who recorded the songs “Sudu Sanda Eliye” and “Wesak Kekulu“ for the same film.

The duo joined hands on 31st May 1956 and later toured overseas with their popular “Sisindra” show. The show was performed for the first time in Sri Lanka on 20th January 2012.

In 1966, Sisira was honoured with the Sarasaviya award for the best music director for the film ‘Handapana’.

Sooriya recorded CHB 069 titled “Sisira Senaratne” in 1978. The EP included “Mangala Maldama”: a duet with Victor Ratnayake and 3 other songs with Indrani Wijebandara.

Sisira, the veteran singer and music director passed away on 4th February 2015.
